IGN has given GTA IV a whopping 10/10 review!
A “10″ is not a score we give out very often. In fact, the last time we gave a 10 to a console game was Soul Calibur in 1999. A 10 doesn’t mean a game is perfect — it means a game is pushing boundaries, expanding a genre, and doing many things to a level so far above and beyond its competitors that they overshadows any flaws.

IGN has an excellent review on the PvP Beta of Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures, the much anticipated MMO from Funcom. Allegedly (no one has seen Conan) based on and around the literary character known as Conan the Barbarian in 1932, the MMO seems to have followed the path of other successful MMO’s - third person point of view, point and click combat with a vast world.
They have detailed some specifics about the gameplay as well which are interesting, and in particular the reality of the game stood out to me –
“Like most fantasy RPGs, you start off by creating your character’s look, class and so on. Unlike most RPGs the only species you can be is human. This is a fairly direct statement of the kind of experience the player is in for. There are no dwarves, elves or pixies. This isn’t Tolkien, this is bawdy, violent dark fantasy – you can choose your gender and race only. This may sound limiting, especially to World of Warcraft fans, but the range and detail you can impose on your character is impressively vast. We stuck with a fairly standard-looking barbarian. Mighty pecs, firm gluts, thick sideburns and a hefty Hyborian mullet. Now that we’d created our barbarian it was time to move onto the game proper.”

The European Commission wants a revamp of the game ratings system, and fairly so I would say. Much like movie rating systems, they need to keep up with the times and they need to be adjusted and monitored.
In my opinion the biggest problem with rating systems is that they ratings over 13 are useless - because of things like Army of Two getting an 18+ rating when we all know 16 year olds will be playing it and they certainly wouldn’t see more than they could in a 16+ movie.
Arstechnica has the story –
“The PEGI ratings can seem overly complicated to those used to the ESRB’s system; each game is assigned an age rating, and different icons representing sexual content or harsh language are then added. There are other, more nebulous descriptors, such as discrimination. “Game contains depictions of, or material which may encourage, discrimination,” the PEGI site explains, showing an icon of two white figures towering menacingly over a black figure. Even more subject is the “fear” descriptor, shown by an outline of a spider. “Game may be frightening or scary for young children.”
Early yesterday GTA IV (Xbox PAL) was leaked to the torrent sites without any confirmations on whether it was fully working or not, but today a gameplay video has been uploaded to we game. Hit the jump to watch it..
